Zirconia has become a popular material in restorative dentistry. When compared to other materials, it has superior physical properties while providing great esthetics. Nevertheless, bonding to this surface can be a clinical challenge if protocols are not thoroughly followed. The main purpose of this CE webinar is to understand how to effectively bond to zirconia in order to achieve predictable results in a consistent fashion.
Upon completion of this CE webinar, the participant will have learned • Understanding the differences between etchable ceramics (lithium disilicate, porcelain) and non-etchable ceramics (zirconia) • Identifying how to obtain the most pristine surface to optimize the bond on the zirconia surface • Understanding the effect on saliva on the zirconia surface and how it prevents proper chemical bond • Being able to apply proper protocols when it comes to decontamination, achieving micromechanical retention and chemical bond • What protocols to follow, and what materials to use. • When to bond and when to lute (or cement)
